We caught up with Chocolate Drop to talk about his musical journey, his love for bass, and what it’s like performing on Bounce Empire’s one-of-a-kind 360-degree hydraulic stage.
Q: What’s your favorite part about playing on Bounce Empire’s 360-degree hydraulic stage?
The fact that when you get raised in the air, you’re able to see the whole park and can watch everyone jamming out and bouncing. The energy is unreal.
Q: Who inspired you to start creating music?
That one would be my dad (RIP). He was able to play any instrument by ear within seconds of hearing a song. I wasn’t big into live instruments, so he got me turntables—and it was all over from there.
Q: How long have you been performing publicly?
I’ve been playing for 15 years in clubs and festivals, mainly with Global Dance and Amplitude Presents.
Q: What’s your favorite genre of music to work on and play?
I’m a basshead—anything with bass, I’m in. Dubstep, riddim, and wonky are my go-to. I also grew up on hip hop, so a lot of tracks I play and make have hip hop influences.
Q: Do you base your sound on any particular artist?
I wouldn’t say my sound is based on anybody. I’ve been taught by Brondo and High Zombie, and using what I’ve learned from both has helped me reach where I’m at. I’ve taken some pointers, but my sound is my own.
For Chocolate Drop, music is about energy, legacy, and originality. Whether raising the crowd on Bounce Empire’s 360-degree hydraulic stage or mixing bass-heavy tracks in the studio, his sound reflects both inspiration from the past and innovation for the future.
